Sex Education in Nebraska Schools
Dave Gottschalk attended the public hearing for the Nebraska Legislatureʼs sex education interim study. He helpedpresent the over 300 pages of research and written testimony and observed the testimony from academics, researchers,parents, doctors, students, and voices of faith sharing their insights and experiences. Dave will review that information with us, and lead a discussion of what sex education encompasses and how it fits into todayʼs curriculum. Expect a lively discussion.
The meeting will be held at the Garden Cafe in Rockbrook, where a buffet meal will include two entrees (one vegetarian), two salads, two sides, and coffee or tea. The price is $16.00 including tax and tip. Weʼll also be serving wine for $2.00 a glass. You are welcome to come even if you donʼt plan to join in the meal. If you do plan to eat we must know by the Friday before, so please rsvp your acceptance by email or phone to Ann Chalson or Linda Duckworth by noon Friday,September 25.

|Good Old Fashion Ice Cream Social FUNdraiser!. League of Women Voters of Greater Omaha (LWVGO) and Big Mama's have joined forces to host an ice cream social to fund voter registration and voter education efforts. The LWVGO, known for the Voter's Guide seen city-wide at election time will hold the event Sunday, October 4th between the hours of 2:00-4:00pm at Big Mama's Kitchen and Catering located at 3223 N. 45th Street (formerly NE School for the Deaf). Big Mama's Kitchen and Catering will be serving signature house made ice cream in vanilla, caramel pecan and her special flavor for the League: Go Vote! Coffee, lemonade and brownies will be also served. Activities for the kiddos and entertainment provided. Tickets will run $12 a person. Children 5 and under are free.|

The book for discussion will be Give Us The Ballot: The Modern Struggle for Voting Rights in America by Ari Berman. The book cover states, "In this groundbreaking narrative history, Ari Berman charts both the transformation of American democracy under the VRA and the counterrevolution that has sought to limit voting rights, from 1965 to the present day."
The book is available at The Bookworm with a 20% discount for the LWVGO Book Group. It is newly published and may or may not be available in the Omaha Public Library.

"INS AND OUTS OF AMENDING THE CONSTITUTION"

Candidates for president have been raising the issue of amending the constitution to revise the 14th Amendment and repeal it as it pertains to all children born in the US becoming citizens. The 14th Amendment currently grants citizenship to "all persons born in the United States."
